Using a strengths-based approach, Maia uses the therapeutic environment to create a space that encourages greater self-awareness and confidence for self-advocacy and nuanced communication. Regardless of her client’s developmental level, Maia honors her client's emotional awareness and cognitive strengths to deepen their understanding of themselves and the social world. Utilizing EMDR and Focusing on a bottom-up approach, such as, one's physiological activation and distress, Maia helps her clients understand how current symptoms and difficulties could be the result of early trauma. Maia helps her client's work through past traumatic events for present and future adaptive responses and self-compassion. CBT methods and insights-oriented work are also part of the Lense from which Maia works. She works with a broad range of individuals, from young children to elderly people – but regardless of age, her dynamic relational therapeutic approach means that every client receives therapy tailored to his or her developmental stage and psychological needs. Maia offers individual, couples, group, and family therapy for high-functioning people on the autism spectrum, including Asperger’s syndrome and other developmental disabilities, as well as childhood disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Through a highly personalized approach, Maia's clients are encouraged to develop a positive sense of themselves while honoring their incremental successes, enabling them to develop the confidence and impetus to set and reach positive and productive goals.
